This excerpt is from the famous epic “Urvashi” by Ramdhari Dinkar. Urvashi, the apsara is madly in love with the earth king “Pururava” to the extent that she wants to relocate from swarga to earth permanently and become an earth woman. Her friends Rambha, Sehjaney and Menaka are perplexed that Urvashi would give up all the comforts and privileges of swarga and become an ordinary earthling for the sake of love of Pururava. Here Rambha is telling Sehjaney that essence of being a Apsara who are not supposed to fall in love but just entertain Devatas. Rajiv Krishna Saxena

रम्भा

सहजन्ये! पर, हम परियों का इतना भी रोना क्या?
किसी एक नर के निमित्त इतना धीरज खोना क्या?

प्रेम मानवी की निधि है अपनी तो वह क्रीड़ा है;
प्रेम हमारा स्वाद, मानवी की आकुल पीड़ा है

जनमीं हम किस लिए? मोद सब के मन मे भरने को।
किसी एक को नहीं मुग्ध जीवन अर्पित करने को।

सृष्टि हमारी नहीं संकुचित किसी एक आनन में।
किसी एक के लिए सुरभि हम नहीं सँजोतीं तन में।

रचना की वेदना जगा जग में उमंग भरती है,
कभी देवता, कभी मनुज का आलिंगन करती है

देतीं मुक्त उँड़ेल अधर – मधु ताप–तप्त अधरों में,
सुख से देतीं छोड़ कनक –कलशों को उष्ण करों में;

पर, यह तो रसमय विनोद है, भावों का खिलना है,
तन की उद्वेलित तरंग पर प्राणों का मिलना है।

हम तो हैं अप्सरा पवन में मुक्त विहरने वाली,
गीत–नाद, सौरभ–सुभास से सब को भरनेवाली।

अपना है आवास, न जाने कितनों की चाहों में,
कैसे हम बँध रहे किसी भी नर कीं दो बाँहों में?
