Our cities have become too westernized. Thousands of years old Indian culture however still survives in its lovely villages. Unfortunately, this wont last for ever. It wont be long before urbanization overtakes the last vestiges of our ancient ways and we get homogenized in the powerful juggernaut of western influences that are overtaking the whole world. We should relish now, what we have, as much as we can. Here is a thought-provoking little poem by the well known Hindi poet Sachchidanand Hiranand Vatsayayan Agyeya. Some readers who cannot read Hindi, have requested an English translation of this poem. A cross-cultural translation of poems is difficult, but in view of the requests, I am adding a translation that I have attempted. – Rajiv Krishna Saxena
