Many of us have grown up with this poem. It used to be so popular in the golden age of Aakash Vani and we often heard it in the voice of the poet himself. The nostalgia of riding a train, often pulled by a steam engine is strong with many of us. As we children sat glued to window, myriad rural scenery was mesmerizing. The poem below recreates the magic. Rhythm in recitation of the poem, especially in names of town, and its synergy with the moving wheels of train, as it crossed vast plains, green forests and tall bridges over rivers, as it passed without stopping tiny railway stations where the station master stood waving his green flag, is magical!
