Jayadrath Vadh is a famous Epic written by the Rashtra Kavi Maithili Sharan Gupt, and tells the story in Mahabharata of the killing of Jayadrath the Kaurava by Arjuna, the Pandava Warrior. In the excerpt given below, Abhimanyu, the 16 year old son of Arjuna is bent upon tackling a specially tricky Kaurav army formation (Chakraviyuh) that he alone can do in the absence of his father Arjuna who is pre-occupied with a battle elsewhere. When Abhimanyu tells about his resolve to his wife Uttara, she is shaken as she is apprehensive that her husband could be killed in this particular battle. She pleads with her husband not to go for this battle. Her pleading and Abhimanyu’s reply are given in the excerpt given below. Rajiv Krishna Saxena
